September.

Oh boy, I am so glad that you are HERE!!
(practically. 2 days is nothin but a thing)

We have so many fun things to look forward to in September! This weekend we are kicking it all off with the Cahill family reunion. If you like jam sessions, family harmonies, buffalo tipping (no joke- it was attempted once...), food off the grill, and ice cold beer- this is the place for you. I am so excited to see all of my family, especially my Grandpa!

Next, I'm anxiously awaiting the 13th. Not only is it my brother's FIFTEENTH birthday (craziness!!!) it's also the same day that the new season of Parenthood starts and the day that the Missoni line drops @ Tar-jay.
P.S. there was definitely some accidental rhyming going on just then.

And at the end of the month, we will all road-tripping it to FL (except puppy...sad face) and I will hopefully get to meet my BFF's baby boy (really James, come out before Aunt Kym gets there. Please) among other things that are currently top secret.

Expect a bagilllion pictures. Speaking of, here's some from our crazy past week...
On Sunday my sister-in-law was baptised: GO SHANNON!!!
Psalm 100:4
 Enter His gates with thanksgiving
         And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
my men all decked out for church:
Daniel's 2nd birthday party!!!
we got him a woody pillow :)
Jakob
Munchkin. He's such a ham :)
1st time in his highchair!

Mom thoughts...

Nap time logic:
How much cleaning can I do in two hours?
How much cleaning can I do in one hour and 45 minutes so that I can read a few more pages of that magazine I bought in February?

Picking out clothes:
Will this print help hide the 40lbs I gained during pregnancy and haven’t lost yet? (sad, but true)
Does it really matter since it will probably get spit up on two seconds after I get dressed?

Grocery shopping:
If we leave right after he wakes up and eats and I need to go to these two stores, and it takes 10 mins to get to the first store, 15mins to get to the second store then 30 mins to get back home, that leaves 16 mins in each store before our next nap…
Wait- can I get two weeks of groceries in 16 minutes?

Strangers in Target:
Oh no! That lady that just blew her nose in aisle 12 is giving the stroller “the look”* !!!

*“the look” - when you know that someone is about to walk up to you, dispense their top 10 best bits of parenting advice, and then reach over and touch your baby. I’m sorry but these people are my least favorite ever. It is not ok for you to touch my kid, stranger. Just isn’t.

I'm kind of telling on myself.

I recently read this post about downsizing your junk and keeping only the pieces in your home that you absolutely love. This is something that I have been struggling with a lot lately. There are so many decor items in our house that we have because “so-and-so gave me that on such-and-such birthday” or “that cost quite a bit of money when we bought it two years ago” (even though it’s charm has completely worn off) and, to be real, it’s driving me coo-coo.  I don’t want to hold on to things out of guilt. The husband can NOT stand it when I bring up getting rid of our stuff.. “but when we bought it we had to have it and now you just want to give it all away?!” In my defense, I was planning to have a garage sale and at least charge $5 for that plate I saw at Pier 1 and almost died over, and begged him to let me buy even though it was a ridiculous 40 and change. For a plate. But honestly. Just to clarify though, I do give Matt some justification here. It’s not all him. I have some little trinkets here and there that I like, not love but like, and I don’t get rid of it because right when I do, I find something that I do love and when I bring it home and put in on display somewhere I go “Man! I really wish I had kept ____ it would look so cute next to this” and then I end up with an awkward space right where ____  should be, but isn’t.

When it comes to buying things we love, we usually can’t. I can not even tell you how many times I have been in an antique store and spied something gorgeous and had that melt-y “OOO… it’s so pretty. I don’t even want to know how much it costs” feeling, only to end up looking at the price tag anyway, because we simply couldn't resist the urge… and then we would end up buying something that we could afford, just so that we didn’t leave feeling defeated. Thus the half loved junk taking up residence on our shelves. But now I know better!!! And I want a do over!

I have grown. My tastes have changed dramatically. All the stuff I used to like seems kind of not grown up enough anymore. Or maybe that’s just how I see it, because it reminds me of when I wasn’t so “grown up”.  I have been looking at blogs and pinterest (which I swore I wouldn’t get sucked into- but 2 hours later when Jonah woke up from his nap I was like- “sheesh! I just laid him down!” but for sure I had been “pinning” for 2 hours) at all these really pretty and unique ideas for home decor, a majority being DIY projects, and I am so anxious to try them all. It wont all happen over night, but eventually I will have a decor I feel better about. Without a doubt I know that this time I wont end up wasting money on things I will want to get rid of in 4 months, because I have been sitting on these ideas for a while. And fine tuning them. And if we have to live in this 600 sq ft house, we might as well do so comfortably, and with less clutter (or at least prettier clutter? just kidding). So, we start the full-house run through Thursday. Wish us luck…

I can't help myself

pearly white

Jonah's first tooth popped through!
It's so cute and perfect and tiny...

I never thought I'd get all excited over a darn tooth.

He's growing up fast...

Yummy

I don't ever post about food. I'm definitely not the blogger with the cute, delicious, fun recipe posts. But lately we've been eating some really tasty stuff... so I just thought I'd share a few quick peeks.
 Monkey bread!!!

A new frozen yogurt place opened here, called Spoonful. It's equivalent to Froyo or Pinkberry.
Of course we had to have a little date to check it out.
 We're in love....
Now a once-a-week necessity. My flavor combination:

Playing catch up

This will be the first of several posts today, as the past few days have been busy and I have taken a bunch of pics that I love and want to share. Also, I now have a lot of time on my hands since Jakob is not here :( he had his first day of pre-school today (only a 1/2 day) and Amanda said that he did well, but the teacher did say that he talked a lot... no surprise there :) Here are some photos of last week:
